Signs of Prophethood 001
Water gushing forth between the fingers of Our Prophet
Allah's Miracles to the prophets
Allah sent prophets and messengers since the time of Adam (peace be upon him) till the time of the last and final
prophet, Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Allah sent miracles and signs to His prophets, so that people can recognize him.
Allah sent miracles to Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Isa (Jesus) and all other messengers.
Miracles and Signs to Prophet Muhammad
For Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) Allah sent many miracles along with Quran which is a living miracle for us.
In the life of Our Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) there are many miracles that the sahabas (companions) witnessed and reported
and came to us as authentic or acceptable narrations via trustworthy chain of narrators.
Let us read one story from an authentic hadith:
Water gushing forth between his(صلى الله عليه وسلم) fingers
(From Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith #3576)
Narrated Salim bin Abi Aj-Ja'd:
Jabir bin Abdullah said, "The
people became very thirsty on the day of Al-Hudaibiya (Treaty of Al-Hudaibiya). A small pot containing
some water was in front of the Prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم), and when he had finished the wudu(ablution), the
people rushed towards him.
He asked, 'What is the matter with you?'
They replied, 'We have
no water either for performing wudu or for drinking except what is present in front of you.'
So, he placed his hand in that pot and the water started flowing among his fingers
like springs. We all drank and performed wudu (from it)."
I asked Jabir, "How
many were you?" He replied, "Even if we had been one hundred thousand, it would
have been sufficient for us, but we were fifteen hundred."

This is only one of 100's of signs that came with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), establishing his
prophethood to all of us. Only that most of the people know not.
We will explore more of these signs later, insha'Allah.
