فَلَمَّا
So when
جَآءَ
came
سُلَيْمَٰنَ
(to) Sulaiman
قَالَ
he said,
أَتُمِدُّونَنِ
"Will you provide me
بِمَالٍ
with wealth?
فَمَآ
But what
ءَاتَىٰنِۦَ
Allah has given me *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
ٱللَّهُ
Allah has given me *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
خَيْرٌ
(is) better
مِّمَّآ
than what
ءَاتَىٰكُم He has given you. بَلْ Nay, أَنتُم you بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْ in your gift تَفْرَحُونَ rejoice. ٱرْجِعْ Return إِلَيْهِمْ to them, فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُم surely, we will come to them
بِجُنُودٍ with hosts لَّا not قِبَلَ (is) resistance لَهُم for them بِهَا of it, وَلَنُخْرِجَنَّهُم and surely, we will drive them out مِّنْهَآ from there أَذِلَّةً (in) humiliation, وَهُمْ and they صَٰغِرُونَ (will be) abased."
قَالَ He said, يَٰٓأَيُّهَا "O ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ chiefs! أَيُّكُمْ Which of you يَأْتِينِى will bring me بِعَرْشِهَا her throne قَبْلَ before أَن that يَأْتُونِى they come to me مُسْلِمِينَ (in) submission?"
قَالَ Said عِفْرِيتٌ a strong one مِّنَ of ٱلْجِنِّ the jinn, أَنَا۠ "I ءَاتِيكَ will bring it to you *[meaning includes next or prev. word] بِهِۦ will bring it to you *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلَ before أَن [that] تَقُومَ you rise مِن from مَّقَامِكَ your place.
وَإِنِّى And indeed, I am عَلَيْهِ for it لَقَوِىٌّ surely, strong, أَمِينٌ trustworthy." قَالَ Said ٱلَّذِى one who, عِندَهُۥ with him عِلْمٌ (was) knowledge مِّنَ of ٱلْكِتَٰبِ the Scripture, أَنَا۠ "I
ءَاتِيكَ will bring it to you *[meaning includes next or prev. word] بِهِۦ will bring it to you *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلَ before أَن [that] يَرْتَدَّ returns إِلَيْكَ to you طَرْفُكَ your glance." فَلَمَّا Then when رَءَاهُ he saw it مُسْتَقِرًّا placed عِندَهُۥ before him,
قَالَ he said, هَٰذَا "This مِن (is) from فَضْلِ (the) Favor رَبِّى (of) my Lord, لِيَبْلُوَنِىٓ to test me ءَأَشْكُرُ whether I am grateful أَمْ or أَكْفُرُ I am ungrateful. وَمَن And whoever شَكَرَ (is) grateful فَإِنَّمَا then only
يَشْكُرُ he is grateful لِنَفْسِهِۦ for his own soul. وَمَن And whoever كَفَرَ (is) ungrateful, فَإِنَّ then indeed, رَبِّى my Lord غَنِىٌّ (is) Self-sufficient, كَرِيمٌ Noble." قَالَ He said, نَكِّرُوا۟ "Disguise لَهَا for her
عَرْشَهَا her throne; نَنظُرْ we will see أَتَهْتَدِىٓ whether she will be guided أَمْ or تَكُونُ will be مِنَ of ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا are not guided." *[meaning includes next or prev. word] يَهْتَدُونَ are not guided." *[meaning includes next or prev. word] فَلَمَّا So when
جَآءَتْ she came, قِيلَ it was said, أَهَٰكَذَا "Is like this عَرْشُكِ your throne?" قَالَتْ She said, كَأَنَّهُۥ "It is like هُوَ it." وَأُوتِينَا "And we were given ٱلْعِلْمَ the knowledge مِن before her *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلِهَا before her *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
وَكُنَّا and we have been مُسْلِمِينَ Muslims." وَصَدَّهَا And has averted her مَا what كَانَت she used (to) تَّعْبُدُ worship مِن besides *[meaning includes next or prev. word] دُونِ besides *[meaning includes next or prev. word] ٱللَّهِ Allah. إِنَّهَا Indeed, she كَانَتْ was مِن from
قَوْمٍ a people كَٰفِرِينَ who disbelieve. قِيلَ It was said لَهَا to her, ٱدْخُلِى "Enter ٱلصَّرْحَ the palace." فَلَمَّا Then when رَأَتْهُ she saw it, حَسِبَتْهُ she thought it لُجَّةً (was) a pool,
وَكَشَفَتْ and she uncovered عَن [on] سَاقَيْهَا her shins. قَالَ He said, إِنَّهُۥ "Indeed, it صَرْحٌ (is) a palace مُّمَرَّدٌ made smooth مِّن of قَوَارِيرَ glass." قَالَتْ She said, رَبِّ "My Lord,
إِنِّى indeed, I ظَلَمْتُ [I] have wronged نَفْسِى myself, وَأَسْلَمْتُ and I submit مَعَ with سُلَيْمَٰنَ Sulaiman لِلَّهِ to Allah, رَبِّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds."
