وَلَقَدْ
And indeed,
وَصَّلْنَا
We have conveyed
لَهُمُ
to them
ٱلْقَوْلَ
the Word
لَعَلَّهُمْ
so that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
remember.
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who,
ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ We gave them ٱلْكِتَٰبَ the Scripture مِن before it, *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلِهِۦ before it, *[meaning includes next or prev. word] هُم they بِهِۦ in it يُؤْمِنُونَ believe. وَإِذَا And when يُتْلَىٰ it is recited
عَلَيْهِمْ to them قَالُوٓا۟ they say, ءَامَنَّا "We believe بِهِۦٓ in it. إِنَّهُ Indeed, it ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth مِن from رَّبِّنَآ our Lord. إِنَّا Indeed, we كُنَّا [we] were مِن before it *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلِهِۦ before it *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
مُسْلِمِينَ Muslims." أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ Those يُؤْتَوْنَ will be given أَجْرَهُم their reward مَّرَّتَيْنِ twice بِمَا because صَبَرُوا۟ they are patient وَيَدْرَءُونَ and they repel
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with good - ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ the evil وَمِمَّا and from what رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ We have provided them يُنفِقُونَ they spend. وَإِذَا And when سَمِعُوا۟ they hear
ٱللَّغْوَ vain talk, أَعْرَضُوا۟ they turn away عَنْهُ from it وَقَالُوا۟ and say, لَنَآ "For us أَعْمَٰلُنَا our deeds وَلَكُمْ and for you أَعْمَٰلُكُمْ your deeds. سَلَٰمٌ Peace (be)
عَلَيْكُمْ on you; لَا not نَبْتَغِى we seek ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ the ignorant." إِنَّكَ Indeed, you لَا (can) not تَهْدِى guide مَنْ whom أَحْبَبْتَ you love,
وَلَٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah يَهْدِى guides مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills. وَهُوَ And He أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ (of) the guided ones.
وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they say, إِن "If نَّتَّبِعِ we follow ٱلْهُدَىٰ the guidance مَعَكَ with you, نُتَخَطَّفْ we would be swept مِنْ from أَرْضِنَآ our land." أَوَلَمْ Have not
نُمَكِّن We established لَّهُمْ for them حَرَمًا a sanctuary ءَامِنًا secure, يُجْبَىٰٓ are brought إِلَيْهِ to it ثَمَرَٰتُ fruits كُلِّ (of) all شَىْءٍ things, رِّزْقًا a provision
مِّن from لَّدُنَّا Us? وَلَٰكِنَّ But أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know. وَكَمْ And how many أَهْلَكْنَا We have destroyed مِن of
قَرْيَةٍۭ a town بَطِرَتْ which exulted, مَعِيشَتَهَا (in) its means of livelihood. فَتِلْكَ And these مَسَٰكِنُهُمْ (are) their dwellings لَمْ not تُسْكَن have been inhabited مِّنۢ after them *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
بَعْدِهِمْ after them *[meaning includes next or prev. word] إِلَّا except قَلِيلًا a little. وَكُنَّا And indeed, [We] نَحْنُ We ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ (are) the inheritors. وَمَا And not كَانَ was رَبُّكَ your Lord
مُهْلِكَ (the) one to destroy ٱلْقُرَىٰ the towns حَتَّىٰ until يَبْعَثَ He (had) sent فِىٓ in أُمِّهَا their mother (town) رَسُولًا a Messenger يَتْلُوا۟ reciting عَلَيْهِمْ to them
ءَايَٰتِنَا Our Verses. وَمَا And not كُنَّا We would be مُهْلِكِى (the) one to destroy ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ the towns إِلَّا except وَأَهْلُهَا while their people ظَٰلِمُونَ (were) wrongdoers.
