كَيْفَ
How
يَكُونُ
can (there) be
لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ
for the polytheists
عَهْدٌ
a covenant
عِندَ
with
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
وَعِندَ
and with
رَسُولِهِۦٓ
His Messenger,
إِلَّا except ٱلَّذِينَ those (with) whom عَٰهَدتُّمْ you made a covenant عِندَ near ٱلْمَسْجِدِ Al-Masjid ٱلْحَرَامِ Al-Haraam? فَمَا So long as ٱسْتَقَٰمُوا۟ they are upright
لَكُمْ to you فَٱسْتَقِيمُوا۟ then you be upright لَهُمْ to them. إِنَّ Indeed, ٱللَّهَ Allah يُحِبُّ loves ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous.
كَيْفَ How وَإِن while, if يَظْهَرُوا۟ they gain dominance عَلَيْكُمْ over you لَا not يَرْقُبُوا۟ they regard (the ties) فِيكُمْ with you إِلًّا (of) kinship وَلَا and not
ذِمَّةً covenant of protection? يُرْضُونَكُم They satisfy you بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ with their mouths وَتَأْبَىٰ but refuse, قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ and most of them
فَٰسِقُونَ (are) defiantly disobedient. ٱشْتَرَوْا۟ They exchange بِـَٔايَٰتِ [with] the Verses ٱللَّهِ of Allah ثَمَنًا (for) a price قَلِيلًا little, فَصَدُّوا۟ and they hinder (people) عَن from
سَبِيلِهِۦٓ His way. إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, سَآءَ evil مَا (is) what كَانُوا۟ they used to يَعْمَلُونَ do. لَا Not يَرْقُبُونَ they respect (the ties)
فِى towards مُؤْمِنٍ a believer إِلًّا (of) kinship وَلَا and not ذِمَّةً covenant of protection. وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ And those هُمُ [they] ٱلْمُعْتَدُونَ (are) the transgressors. فَإِن But if
تَابُوا۟ they repent وَأَقَامُوا۟ and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَءَاتَوُا۟ and give ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ the zakah, فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ then (they are) your brothers فِى in
ٱلدِّينِ [the] religion. وَنُفَصِّلُ And We explain in detail ٱلْءَايَٰتِ the Verses لِقَوْمٍ for a people يَعْلَمُونَ (who) know. وَإِن And if
نَّكَثُوٓا۟ they break أَيْمَٰنَهُم their oaths مِّنۢ [after (=min ba'd)] بَعْدِ after (=min ba'd) عَهْدِهِمْ their treaty وَطَعَنُوا۟ and defame فِى [in] دِينِكُمْ your religion,
فَقَٰتِلُوٓا۟ then fight أَئِمَّةَ the leaders ٱلْكُفْرِ (of) [the] disbelief, إِنَّهُمْ indeed, they - لَآ no أَيْمَٰنَ oaths لَهُمْ for them, لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may
يَنتَهُونَ cease. أَلَا Will not تُقَٰتِلُونَ you fight قَوْمًا a people نَّكَثُوٓا۟ who broke أَيْمَٰنَهُمْ their oaths
وَهَمُّوا۟ and determined بِإِخْرَاجِ to drive out ٱلرَّسُولِ the Messenger وَهُم and they بَدَءُوكُمْ began (to attack) you أَوَّلَ first مَرَّةٍ time?
أَتَخْشَوْنَهُمْ Do you fear them? فَٱللَّهُ But Allah أَحَقُّ (has) more right أَن that تَخْشَوْهُ you should fear Him, إِن if كُنتُم you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers.
