وَمَا
And not
كُنتَ
you were
بِجَانِبِ
on (the) side
ٱلْغَرْبِىِّ
western
إِذْ
when
قَضَيْنَآ
We decreed
إِلَىٰ
to
مُوسَى
Musa
ٱلْأَمْرَ
the Commandment
وَمَا
and not
كُنتَ
you were
مِنَ among ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ the witnesses. وَلَٰكِنَّآ But We أَنشَأْنَا [We] produced قُرُونًا generations فَتَطَاوَلَ and prolonged عَلَيْهِمُ for them
ٱلْعُمُرُ the life. وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were ثَاوِيًا a dweller فِىٓ among أَهْلِ (the) people مَدْيَنَ (of) Madyan, تَتْلُوا۟ reciting عَلَيْهِمْ to them
ءَايَٰتِنَا Our Verses, وَلَٰكِنَّا but We كُنَّا [We] were مُرْسِلِينَ the Senders. وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were بِجَانِبِ at (the) side
ٱلطُّورِ (of) the Tur إِذْ when نَادَيْنَا We called. وَلَٰكِن But رَّحْمَةً (as) a mercy مِّن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord لِتُنذِرَ so that you warn قَوْمًا a people
مَّآ not أَتَىٰهُم (had) come to them مِّن any نَّذِيرٍ warner مِّن before you *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلِكَ before you *[meaning includes next or prev. word] لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember.
وَلَوْلَآ And if not أَن [that] تُصِيبَهُم struck them مُّصِيبَةٌۢ a disaster بِمَا for what قَدَّمَتْ had sent forth أَيْدِيهِمْ their hands فَيَقُولُوا۟ and they would say,
رَبَّنَا "Our Lord! لَوْلَآ Why not أَرْسَلْتَ You sent إِلَيْنَا to us رَسُولًا a Messenger فَنَتَّبِعَ so we (could have) followed ءَايَٰتِكَ Your Verses وَنَكُونَ and we (would) have been
مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers?" فَلَمَّا But when جَآءَهُمُ came to them ٱلْحَقُّ the truth مِنْ from Us *[meaning includes next or prev. word] عِندِنَا from Us *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَالُوا۟ they said,
لَوْلَآ "Why not أُوتِىَ he was given مِثْلَ (the) like مَآ (of) what أُوتِىَ was given مُوسَىٰٓ (to) Musa?" أَوَلَمْ Did not يَكْفُرُوا۟ they disbelieve بِمَآ in what أُوتِىَ was given
مُوسَىٰ (to) Musa مِن before? *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلُ before? *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَالُوا۟ They said, سِحْرَانِ "Two magic (works) تَظَٰهَرَا supporting each other." وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they said, إِنَّا "Indeed, we بِكُلٍّ in all كَٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers."
قُلْ Say, فَأْتُوا۟ "Then bring بِكِتَٰبٍ a Book مِّنْ from Allah, *[meaning includes next or prev. word] عِندِ from Allah, *[meaning includes next or prev. word] ٱللَّهِ from Allah, *[meaning includes next or prev. word] هُوَ which أَهْدَىٰ (is) a better guide مِنْهُمَآ than both of them أَتَّبِعْهُ that I may follow it,
إِن if كُنتُمْ you are صَٰدِقِينَ truthful." فَإِن But if لَّمْ not يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ they respond لَكَ to you, فَٱعْلَمْ then know
أَنَّمَا that only يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow أَهْوَآءَهُمْ their desires. وَمَنْ And who أَضَلُّ (is) more astray مِمَّنِ than (one) who ٱتَّبَعَ follows هَوَىٰهُ his own desire بِغَيْرِ without
هُدًى guidance مِّنَ from ٱللَّهِ Allah? إِنَّ Indeed, ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يَهْدِى guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people - ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers.
مِنَ among ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ the witnesses. وَلَٰكِنَّآ But We أَنشَأْنَا [We] produced قُرُونًا generations فَتَطَاوَلَ and prolonged عَلَيْهِمُ for them

رَبَّنَا "Our Lord! لَوْلَآ Why not أَرْسَلْتَ You sent إِلَيْنَا to us رَسُولًا a Messenger فَنَتَّبِعَ so we (could have) followed ءَايَٰتِكَ Your Verses وَنَكُونَ and we (would) have been
