إِن
If
تَسْتَغْفِرْ
you ask forgiveness
لَهُمْ
for them
سَبْعِينَ
seventy
مَرَّةً
times,
فَلَن never يَغْفِرَ (will) forgive ٱللَّهُ Allah لَهُمْ [for] them. ذَٰلِكَ That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger,
وَٱللَّهُ and Allah لَا (does) not يَهْدِى guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people, ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ the defiantly disobedient. فَرِحَ Rejoice ٱلْمُخَلَّفُونَ those who remained behind بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ in their staying
خِلَٰفَ behind رَسُولِ (the) Messenger ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah, وَكَرِهُوٓا۟ and they disliked أَن to يُجَٰهِدُوا۟ strive بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ with their wealth وَأَنفُسِهِمْ and their lives
فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَقَالُوا۟ and they said, لَا "(Do) not تَنفِرُوا۟ go forth فِى in ٱلْحَرِّ the heat." قُلْ Say, نَارُ "(The) Fire جَهَنَّمَ (of) Hell أَشَدُّ (is) more intense حَرًّا (in) heat."
لَّوْ If (only) كَانُوا۟ they could يَفْقَهُونَ understand. فَلْيَضْحَكُوا۟ So let them laugh قَلِيلًا a little, وَلْيَبْكُوا۟ and let them weep كَثِيرًا much جَزَآءًۢ (as) a recompense
بِمَا for what كَانُوا۟ they used to يَكْسِبُونَ earn. فَإِن Then if رَّجَعَكَ returns you ٱللَّهُ Allah إِلَىٰ to طَآئِفَةٍ a group
مِّنْهُمْ of them, فَٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَ and they ask you permission لِلْخُرُوجِ to go out, فَقُل then say, لَّن "Never تَخْرُجُوا۟ will you come out مَعِىَ with me أَبَدًا ever وَلَن and never
تُقَٰتِلُوا۟ will you fight مَعِىَ with me عَدُوًّا any enemy. إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you رَضِيتُم were satisfied بِٱلْقُعُودِ with sitting أَوَّلَ (the) first مَرَّةٍ time, فَٱقْعُدُوا۟ so sit
مَعَ with ٱلْخَٰلِفِينَ those who stay behind." وَلَا And not تُصَلِّ you pray عَلَىٰٓ for أَحَدٍ any مِّنْهُم of them مَّاتَ who dies, أَبَدًا ever, وَلَا and not تَقُمْ you stand
عَلَىٰ by قَبْرِهِۦٓ his grave. إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger, وَمَاتُوا۟ and died وَهُمْ while they were فَٰسِقُونَ defiantly disobedient.
وَلَا And (let) not تُعْجِبْكَ impress you أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ their wealth وَأَوْلَٰدُهُمْ and their children. إِنَّمَا Only يُرِيدُ intends ٱللَّهُ Allah أَن to يُعَذِّبَهُم punish them
بِهَا with it فِى in ٱلدُّنْيَا the world, وَتَزْهَقَ and will depart أَنفُسُهُمْ their souls وَهُمْ while they كَٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers. وَإِذَآ And when
أُنزِلَتْ was revealed سُورَةٌ a Surah أَنْ that; ءَامِنُوا۟ believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَجَٰهِدُوا۟ and strive مَعَ with رَسُولِهِ His Messenger, ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَكَ ask your permission
أُو۟لُوا۟ (the) men ٱلطَّوْلِ (of) wealth مِنْهُمْ among them وَقَالُوا۟ and said, ذَرْنَا "Leave us, نَكُن (to) be مَّعَ with ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ those who sit."
فَلَن never يَغْفِرَ (will) forgive ٱللَّهُ Allah لَهُمْ [for] them. ذَٰلِكَ That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger,
