لَقَدِ
Verily,
ٱبْتَغَوُا۟
they had sought
ٱلْفِتْنَةَ
dissension
مِن

قَبْلُ
before *[meaning includes prev. word]
وَقَلَّبُوا۟
and had upset
لَكَ
for you
ٱلْأُمُورَ
the matters
حَتَّىٰ
until
جَآءَ came ٱلْحَقُّ the truth وَظَهَرَ and became manifest أَمْرُ (the) Order ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah, وَهُمْ while they كَٰرِهُونَ disliked (it). وَمِنْهُم And among them
مَّن (is he) who يَقُولُ says, ٱئْذَن "Grant leave لِّى for me وَلَا and (do) not تَفْتِنِّىٓ put me to trial." أَلَا Surely, فِى in ٱلْفِتْنَةِ the trial سَقَطُوا۟ they have fallen. وَإِنَّ And indeed,
جَهَنَّمَ Hell لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ (will) surely surround بِٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers. إِن If تُصِبْكَ befalls you
حَسَنَةٌ good, تَسُؤْهُمْ it distresses them, وَإِن but if تُصِبْكَ befalls you مُصِيبَةٌ a calamity يَقُولُوا۟ they say, قَدْ "Verily,
أَخَذْنَآ we took أَمْرَنَا our matter مِن before." *[meaning includes next word] قَبْلُ before." *[meaning includes prev. word] وَيَتَوَلَّوا۟ And they turn away وَّهُمْ while they فَرِحُونَ (are) rejoicing. قُل Say,
لَّن "Never يُصِيبَنَآ will befall us إِلَّا except مَا what كَتَبَ has decreed ٱللَّهُ Allah لَنَا for us, هُوَ He مَوْلَىٰنَا (is) our Protector." وَعَلَى And on
ٱللَّهِ Allah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ [so] let (they) put (their) trust. ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ the believers قُلْ Say, هَلْ "Do تَرَبَّصُونَ you await بِنَآ for us إِلَّآ except
إِحْدَى one ٱلْحُسْنَيَيْنِ (of) the two best (things) وَنَحْنُ while we نَتَرَبَّصُ [we] await بِكُمْ for you أَن that يُصِيبَكُمُ will afflict you ٱللَّهُ Allah
بِعَذَابٍ with a punishment مِّنْ from عِندِهِۦٓ [near] Him, أَوْ or بِأَيْدِينَا by our hands? فَتَرَبَّصُوٓا۟ So wait, إِنَّا indeed, we مَعَكُم with you
مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ (are) waiting." قُلْ Say, أَنفِقُوا۟ "Spend طَوْعًا willingly أَوْ or كَرْهًا unwillingly; لَّن never يُتَقَبَّلَ will be accepted
مِنكُمْ from you. إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you كُنتُمْ [you] are قَوْمًا a people فَٰسِقِينَ defiantly disobedient." وَمَا And not
مَنَعَهُمْ prevents them أَن that تُقْبَلَ is accepted مِنْهُمْ from them نَفَقَٰتُهُمْ their contributions إِلَّآ except أَنَّهُمْ that they كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve
بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ and in His Messenger, وَلَا and not يَأْتُونَ they come ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ (to) the prayer إِلَّا except وَهُمْ while they
كُسَالَىٰ (are) lazy, وَلَا and not يُنفِقُونَ they spend إِلَّا except وَهُمْ while they كَٰرِهُونَ (are) unwilling.
جَآءَ came ٱلْحَقُّ the truth وَظَهَرَ and became manifest أَمْرُ (the) Order ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah, وَهُمْ while they كَٰرِهُونَ disliked (it). وَمِنْهُم And among them
