ٱصْبِرْ
Be patient
عَلَىٰ
over
مَا
what
يَقُولُونَ
they say,
وَٱذْكُرْ
and remember
عَبْدَنَا
Our slave,
دَاوُۥدَ
Dawood,
ذَا
the possessor of strength. *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
ٱلْأَيْدِ
the possessor of strength. *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
إِنَّهُۥٓ
Indeed, he (was)
أَوَّابٌ
repeatedly turning.
إِنَّا
Indeed, We
سَخَّرْنَا subjected ٱلْجِبَالَ the mountains مَعَهُۥ with him يُسَبِّحْنَ glorifying بِٱلْعَشِىِّ in the evening وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ and [the] sunrise. وَٱلطَّيْرَ And the birds
مَحْشُورَةً assembled, كُلٌّ all لَّهُۥٓ with him أَوَّابٌ repeatedly turning. وَشَدَدْنَا And We strengthened مُلْكَهُۥ his kingdom وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ and We gave him ٱلْحِكْمَةَ [the] wisdom
وَفَصْلَ and decisive ٱلْخِطَابِ speech. وَهَلْ And has (there) أَتَىٰكَ come to you نَبَؤُا۟ (the) news ٱلْخَصْمِ (of) the litigants, إِذْ when تَسَوَّرُوا۟ they climbed over the wall
ٱلْمِحْرَابَ (of) the chamber? إِذْ When دَخَلُوا۟ they entered عَلَىٰ upon دَاوُۥدَ Dawood فَفَزِعَ and he was afraid مِنْهُمْ of them, قَالُوا۟ they said, لَا "(Do) not تَخَفْ fear.
خَصْمَانِ (We are) two litigants, بَغَىٰ has wronged بَعْضُنَا one of us عَلَىٰ to بَعْضٍ another, فَٱحْكُم so judge بَيْنَنَا between us بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth وَلَا and (do) not تُشْطِطْ be unjust
وَٱهْدِنَآ and guide us إِلَىٰ to سَوَآءِ an even ٱلصِّرَٰطِ [the] path. إِنَّ Indeed, هَٰذَآ this أَخِى (is) my brother, لَهُۥ he has تِسْعٌ ninety-nine *[meaning includes next or prev. word] وَتِسْعُونَ ninety-nine *[meaning includes next or prev. word] نَعْجَةً ewe(s)
وَلِىَ while I have نَعْجَةٌ ewe وَٰحِدَةٌ one; فَقَالَ so he said, أَكْفِلْنِيهَا "Entrust her to me," وَعَزَّنِى and he overpowered me فِى in ٱلْخِطَابِ [the] speech." قَالَ He said,
لَقَدْ "Certainly, ظَلَمَكَ he has wronged you بِسُؤَالِ by demanding نَعْجَتِكَ your ewe إِلَىٰ to نِعَاجِهِۦ his ewes. وَإِنَّ And indeed, كَثِيرًا many مِّنَ of ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ the partners لَيَبْغِى certainly oppress
بَعْضُهُمْ some of them عَلَىٰ [on] بَعْضٍ another إِلَّا except ٱلَّذِينَ those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ and do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ righteous deeds وَقَلِيلٌ and few
مَّا (are) they." *[meaning includes next or prev. word] هُمْ (are) they." *[meaning includes next or prev. word] وَظَنَّ And became certain دَاوُۥدُ Dawood أَنَّمَا that فَتَنَّٰهُ We (had) tried him, فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ and he asked forgiveness رَبَّهُۥ (of) his Lord وَخَرَّ and fell down رَاكِعًا bowing وَأَنَابَ and turned in repentance.
فَغَفَرْنَا So We forgave لَهُۥ for him ذَٰلِكَ that. وَإِنَّ And indeed, لَهُۥ for him عِندَنَا with Us لَزُلْفَىٰ surely is a near access وَحُسْنَ and a good مَـَٔابٍ place of return.
يَٰدَاوُۥدُ "O Dawood! إِنَّا Indeed, We جَعَلْنَٰكَ [We] have made you خَلِيفَةً a vicegerent فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth, فَٱحْكُم so judge بَيْنَ between ٱلنَّاسِ [the] men بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth
وَلَا and (do) not تَتَّبِعِ follow ٱلْهَوَىٰ the desire, فَيُضِلَّكَ for it will lead you astray عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah. إِنَّ Indeed, ٱلَّذِينَ those who يَضِلُّونَ go astray
عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah, لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment شَدِيدٌۢ severe بِمَا because نَسُوا۟ they forgot يَوْمَ (the) Day ٱلْحِسَابِ (of) Account."
