قَالَ
He said,
إِنَّمَآ
"Only
أُوتِيتُهُۥ
I have been given it
عَلَىٰ
on (account)
عِلْمٍ
(of) knowledge
عِندِىٓ
I have."
أَوَلَمْ
Did not
يَعْلَمْ
he know
أَنَّ
that
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
قَدْ
indeed
أَهْلَكَ
destroyed
مِن before him *[meaning includes next or prev. word] قَبْلِهِۦ before him *[meaning includes next or prev. word] مِنَ of ٱلْقُرُونِ the generations مَنْ who هُوَ [they] أَشَدُّ (were) stronger مِنْهُ than him قُوَّةً (in) strength وَأَكْثَرُ and greater جَمْعًا (in) accumulation.
وَلَا And not يُسْـَٔلُ will be questioned عَن about ذُنُوبِهِمُ their sins ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals. فَخَرَجَ So he went forth عَلَىٰ to قَوْمِهِۦ his people
فِى in زِينَتِهِۦ his adornment. قَالَ Said ٱلَّذِينَ those who يُرِيدُونَ desire ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world, يَٰلَيْتَ "O! Would that لَنَا for us
مِثْلَ (the) like مَآ (of) what أُوتِىَ has been given قَٰرُونُ (to) Qarun. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he لَذُو (is the) owner حَظٍّ (of) fortune عَظِيمٍ great." وَقَالَ But said ٱلَّذِينَ those who
أُوتُوا۟ were given ٱلْعِلْمَ the knowledge, وَيْلَكُمْ "Woe to you! ثَوَابُ (The) reward ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah خَيْرٌ (is) better لِّمَنْ for (he) who ءَامَنَ believes وَعَمِلَ and does
صَٰلِحًا righteous (deeds). وَلَا And not يُلَقَّىٰهَآ it is granted إِلَّا except ٱلصَّٰبِرُونَ (to) the patient ones." فَخَسَفْنَا Then We caused to swallow up, بِهِۦ him
وَبِدَارِهِ and his home, ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth. فَمَا Then not كَانَ was لَهُۥ for him مِن any فِئَةٍ group يَنصُرُونَهُۥ (to) help him مِن besides *[meaning includes next or prev. word] دُونِ besides *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
ٱللَّهِ Allah, وَمَا and not كَانَ was مِنَ (he) of ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ those who (could) defend themselves. وَأَصْبَحَ And began, ٱلَّذِينَ those who تَمَنَّوْا۟ (had) wished
مَكَانَهُۥ his position بِٱلْأَمْسِ the day before يَقُولُونَ (to) say, وَيْكَأَنَّ "Ah! That ٱللَّهَ Allah يَبْسُطُ extends ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision لِمَن for whom
يَشَآءُ He wills مِنْ of عِبَادِهِۦ His slaves, وَيَقْدِرُ and restricts it. لَوْلَآ If not أَن that مَّنَّ Allah had favored *[meaning includes next or prev. word] ٱللَّهُ Allah had favored *[meaning includes next or prev. word] عَلَيْنَا [to] us لَخَسَفَ He would have caused it to swallow us. *[meaning includes next or prev. word] بِنَا He would have caused it to swallow us. *[meaning includes next or prev. word]
وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ Ah! That لَا not يُفْلِحُ will succeed ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers." تِلْكَ That ٱلدَّارُ the Home ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ (of) the Hereafter نَجْعَلُهَا We assign it
لِلَّذِينَ to those who لَا (do) not يُرِيدُونَ desire عُلُوًّا exaltedness فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَا and not فَسَادًا corruption. وَٱلْعَٰقِبَةُ And the good end لِلْمُتَّقِينَ (is) for the righteous.
مَن Whoever جَآءَ comes بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with a good (deed) فَلَهُۥ then for him, خَيْرٌ (will be) better مِّنْهَا than it; وَمَن and whoever جَآءَ comes بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ with an evil (deed) فَلَا then not
يُجْزَى will be recompensed ٱلَّذِينَ those who عَمِلُوا۟ do ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ the evil (deeds) إِلَّا except مَا what كَانُوا۟ they used (to) يَعْمَلُونَ do.
